Ocean Winds Bring Cooler Air Long Island Today Friday Weekend Outlook
Yesterday we saw the warmest day of the spring so far on Long Island with highs reaching the 80s just about everywhere and the sea breeze being kept mostly in check. We will have another day of sunshine today but there is a difference. Instead of northwest wind, we will have an east wind.
It won’t be a roaring east wind but it is enough to keep temperatures about 10 degrees lower than Wednesday so most highs inland will be in the 70s. Look for cooler 60s along the South Shore and the East End. We are not going to have any showers or thunderstorms to worry about today thanks to the cool high to the northeast keeping the atmosphere stable.

There is the outside chance for a shower early Friday morning otherwise Friday will be partly sunny with the ocean wind still in play. Highs again will be in the 70s except for 60s along the south shore and East End. Late Friday night or early Saturday morning could bring a shower or thunderstorm otherwise Saturday will be partly sunny with highs in the 70s and the chance for a shower or thunderstorm in the evening.
Sunday brings another cold front so ahead of it the winds will go more west and that should take the temperatures into the upper 70s and lower 80s on Long Island. Skies should be partly sunny with just a small chance for an evening shower or thunderstorm as the cold front moves through.
Next week starts out a little cooler with some sunshine Monday and highs in the 70s. Winds go west and southwest for Tuesday and Wednesday and that means it warms up again. We are looking for highs in the mid 70s to near 80 Tuesday and mid to upper 80s Wednesday ahead of the next cold front.
